1953-54 Jimmy Bryan Race Worn Indianapolis 500 Fire Suit with Cigar in Pocket (Photomatched)
An exceptional offering, this one-piece royal blue fire suit was worn by driver Jimmy Bryan for both the 1953 and 1954 Indianapolis 500s, in addition to the AAA Championship. This special suit has a unique flap on the left breast pocket where Bryan kept his trademark cigars, one of which he had in his mouth every race. Inside that flap is one of his actual cigars, unused and in its original case. This suit is photomatched to the covers of the Dec. 1954 and Feb. 1955 Speed Age magazine (as shown), and the sponsor patch on back (Dean's Van Lines) was replaced with one from Clint Brawner's original stock by Len Gasper. "Bryan" is handwritten in the neck and also embroidered the above left breast pocket, and this displays tons of use with multiple repairs. Bryan finished 14th at the Brickyard in '53, before running to a second place finish the following year. Originates from the Len Gasper collection, with LOA signed by Gasper and Bryan's father for suit and cigar.
