1955 Roberto Clemente Signed Government Postcard (Rookie Year Autograph)

1955 Roberto Clemente Signed Government Postcard (Rookie Year Autograph)

Jim Davidson, a persistent and persuasive baseball autograph hunter back in the ‘50s, collected a treasure trove of signatures on government postcards from among the game’s royalty which today stand as some of the finest and most well preserved such signatures around. One of the finest is surely this card signed by a young Roberto Clemente in the midst of his first big league season! Perhaps the best rookie Clemente marker in existence -- and only among a handful, period -- the signature sprawls across the back of the card in blue ink, a large and carefree example rarely seen thereafter -- no less than a 9/10. Postcard itself is EX-MT and postmarked July 21, 1955 from Pittsburgh. Small newspaper photo of Clemente affixed at left. As with all the Davidson cards, it is self-stamped and addressed.
