1953 Ty Cobb Signed Government Postcard

1953 Ty Cobb Signed Government Postcard

Cobb signed this peach of a postcard for Jim Davidson’s collection at a particularly inactive time in his stormy life, when he came out of seclusion to make numerous public appearances in response to demands to see the old curmudgeon. Card postmarked March 27, 1953 from Menlo Park, CA, which was two years after Cobb’s testimony before Congress defending baseball’s odious reserve clause binding players to their teams for life. Carefree signature is a pristine 10/10 in neon green marker under which he added, “3/27/53” and underlined it with a flourish. Vintage Cobb photo is to the left of the signature. Card is NRMT.
