1956 Floyd Patterson Boxer of the Year Award

1956 Floyd Patterson Boxer of the Year Award

Floyd Patterson began his career as a middleweight in 1952. He slowly worked his way up in weight and by 1956 he was a bona fide heavyweight. After winning a title eliminator over Tommy Jackson in 1956 he took on Archie Moore later in the year for the heavyweight title vacated by Rocky Marciano's retirement. Patterson stopped Moore to complete a great year. Offered here is an award honoring his great year in 1956. A metal on wood award featuring a fight pose boxer the award reads, FLOYD PATTERSON VOTED BOXER OF 1956 BY CHICAGO BOXING WRITERS AND BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION FEB. 24, 1957." Has some scratches, otherwise fine. 11" x 16." One of the more important awards Patterson received after winning the world heavyweight title.
