1961 Conway Twitty Boxing Style Concert Poster

1961 Conway Twitty Boxing Style Concert Poster

Originally a rock & roll singer in the 1950s and later a pop star, Conway Twitty became a country icon during the '70s and '80s with a staggering 40 number one hits. This poster comes from early on in Twitty's career, promoting two dates he played in 1961 in a great style mimicking a boxing poster. The paper label at the top shows the venues as Elmo's Club on November 1, and Watkins Park on November 2. The poster bills Twitty as "The Most Talked About Name Around The World" and lists several of the hits he recorded while with M.G.M. Records, including It's Only Make Believe, Lonely Blue Boy, and Danny Boy. The bottom reads "Have Fun, Go Dancing" underscoring his pop roots at the time. There is some water damage at the top but it is otherwise EX-MT. A similar specimen recently sold at auction in March 2017 for $7,500.
