1964 Liston vs. Clay Money Clip
Before he was the "Greatest of all Time," Muhammad Ali was one of the biggest underdogs of all time. As history recalls the first bout between Champion Sonny Liston and then-named Cassius Clay in Miami on February 25, 1964, few gave the upstart 22-year old challenger a prayer against the fierce Liston. This rare item is a memento of that fight, likely a giveaway to VIPs by the Distinguished Sportsman. It is a gold-coated money clip with the engraving, "LISTON vs CLAY - Heavyweight Championship - 1964 - Distinguished Sportsman.” The circular face measures about 1.5“ in diameter and the item is in EX-MT condition, with just a hint of chipping to the gold coating. A great way to remember the night that the man from Louisville "shocked the world."
