1974 Ali-Foreman Fight Trunks
Originally slated to be used by Muhammad Ali in his “Fight of the Millennium” with George Foreman in 1974. He instead chose to wear his old familiar style of black and white rather than deviate with this pair in white satin trucks with black, red and green trim. These trunks were definitely worn by him in training based on the wear, and based on the circumstances (he spent a lot of extra time there because of the postponement) were likely used in training for this fight of colossal importance. Fabulous center waistband sports the “Everlast” label with the all-important “Made Expressly for Muhammad Ali” logo. The trunks were signed on the left leg during the 1980s by Muhammad Ali in what is now slightly faded black sharpie. In overall excellent condition, this important relic was once part of the Drew “Bundini” Brown Estate sale, and is appropriately tagged, “RK8814.” Letter from boxing expert Craig Hamilton who researched and authenticated this lot. ?On October 30, 1974, Muhammad Ali and George Foreman met in a much anticipated heavyweight fight in Kinshasa, Zaire. At stake was Foreman’s World Heavyweight Title. Foreman came in undefeated and heavily favored. He had destroyed two men who had given Ali life and death fights, Joe Frazier and Ken Norton. Styles make fights and Ali adopted a “rope-a-dope” style, which led to Foreman exhausting his energy in the early rounds setting up a later drive by Ali. It all ended in the eighth round when Ali landed a heavy combination, which combined with Foreman’s weakened state, proved too much. Muhammad Ali had won his second title.
