1974 Muhammad Ali Inscribed "the Mummy Will Fall" Training Glove
This red “Sever” training glove (no laces) was worn by Muhammad Ali while training at Deer Lake, PA. for the “Rumble in the Jungle” in Kinsasha, Zaire. It is well known that Ali would hand out choice pieces of equipment to those who watched him train at this facility in Pennsylvania. But none could be more meaningful than this fabulous piece of memorabilia. Not only does it boast the great black ink inscription and signature from Ali, “Muhammad Ali - the title will be mine! The ‘Mummy’ will fall - 1974” with a stick figure added. The “Mummy” refers to George Foreman. Additionally, it has been signed by Ali’s father, “Cassius M. Clay, Sr.” as well as Ali’s trainer, Bundini Brown, “Peace from Bundini Brown.” The black ballpoint signatures are EX-MT and grade “8” and “9” out of a possible 10. Inscribed on the thumb, “glove given to me at Deer Lake, PA. 1974 - used in training.” Glove shows nice use from training for one of the most famous fights in Ali’s career, in which he regained the title from George Foreman in a blatant display of domination in the ring. LOA from noted Ali collector, Pete Morkovin.
