19th Century Currier & Ives Baseball Litho

This is an historic print by the masters of 19th Century printmaking, Currier and Ives as they were among the first to recognize baseball as our national sport. Entitled "The American National Game of Baseball" and dated 1866, it is one of the great and early prints. They selected Elysian Field, Hoboken as the location for the game, as it is widely accepted that this site is the location of the first game in 1846, it is a very important lithograph by Currier and Ives whose work in many ways defined 19th Century Americana. This is a 19th century re-strike, as the original is smaller and is worth $75,000+. Print is 20x28.5 and has some foxing and minor wear at one edge, overall EX of what can be seen. Matte covers area of damage at bottom borders.
