Abraham Lincoln signed 1864 Officer Commission
A spectacular and historic Officers Commission signed in August, 1864 by President Abraham Lincoln and Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton. The printed text and handwritten inserts are beneath the Seal of the President of the United States of America, and above a highly detailed etching of flags, cannons, and a variety of military gear. A green Seal of the War Office is affixed upper left. This impressive document measures 13 1/2" x 18" and is matted under glass in a wood and metal frame to 22 1/2" x 27". The document appears to have had some restoration but presents an excellent overall appearance, certainly one of the better specimens we've seen. The document has creases from folding for official storage, and a filing description in red pen written at the top left.
