Cap Anson 1889 Uncle Sam Magazine
This August 1989 issue of Uncle Sam has a stirring color lithograph portrait of a handsome, mustachioed Cap Anson on the cover with an illustrated game scene, patriotic images and an ode to Anson ("Chicago's Hero") reading: "There was a ball player named Anson, Who kept his crack Colts busy prancin. He directed their paces, As they ran 'round the bases." One of the best early baseball covers extant, with Anson leaning on his bat in a powder blue Chicago uniform. 10 x 13" magazine consists of unbound, separated pages with other delighftul period art inside. Overall VG-EX this was nicely removed from a bound volume. The best player of his time.
