Cassius Clay Fight Worn Shoes - The Earliest Known

Cassius Clay Fight Worn Shoes - The Earliest Known

Cassius Clay’s amateur fight shoes which he used while training at the Columbia Street Gym in Louisville, Kentucky under the watchful eye of his trainer, police officer Joe Martin. Clay presented the shoes to Martin and they were displayed at the gym. These well-worn, white leather, boot style shoes were originally inside the amateur gym bag offered elsewhere in this auction. The shoes are complete with the original laces. The shoes date to Clay’s amateur career and were likely worn during training sessions in the gym as well as during actual amateur fights. A rare offering from the teenage years of Cassius Clay. LOA from long time Ali collector Peter Morkovin who purchased this item originally. Additional LOA from Craig Hamilton of JO Sports, Inc.
