Cassius Marcellus Clay "Next Heavyweight Champion of the World 1963" Signed Glove

Cassius Marcellus Clay "Next Heavyweight Champion of the World 1963" Signed Glove

The greatest of "The Greatest" is this ineffably rare boxing glove worn and signed with an out-of-this-world inscription by a young, brash and prescient Clay in 1963. The inscription that makes the mitt a one of a kind item reads, "From Cassius Marcellus Clay, Next Heavyweight Champion of the World, 19-63." This is so unique and so valuable on so many levels that it's ridiculous. First, it's one of the very few times he ever used his full name. Second, the prophesy that he made good on when he "shocked the world" by beating Sonny Liston for the heavyweight crown on February 25, 1964 was one he usually saved for the cameras and reporters; putting it down in pen was taking a new step, and one that said there was no turning back now; he was putting everything on the line to prove he wasn't all mouth. Of course, any pre-Ali Clay signature is a keeper, and this vintage one is as good as it gets, in blue pen that hasn't faded much over the years and features an artful sweep of the 1st "C" that underlines "Cassius," another rare affectation. NRMT all the way. Moreover, the glove itself is a prime piece, a soft and supple mocha brown beauty with tan laces, white stitching and tan canvas interior. Only stamping on it is a partially eroded "Minwell 9858" on the upper palm. Glove is -EX with a few areas of soling. Sure to shake up the world of collecting.
