Circa 1867 Notre Dame Baseball Team Carte-de-Visite

Circa 1867 Notre Dame Baseball Team Carte-de-Visite

Truly special image is one of the earliest and grandest college baseball CdV’s in existence. This shows the Fighting Irish team circa 1867 at their very best. Many of the players are holding their bats, which are long and thick, and one player is even holding a baseball. The image itself has rough edges but this is the original photographer’s cut. Mount is VG-EX. Mount is unmarked by any photographer but was undoubtedly produced locally. The verso is initialed by the secretary of the Notre Dame club in pencil “E.L.C.” Image itself is beautiful, with excellent contrast. Our favorite is the priest sitting at center, taking it all in.
