Circa 1888 Darby O'Brien Cleveland Blues Travel Trunk
Once carried by nineteenth century pitcher Darby O'Brien, this antique baseball relic comes fresh to the market thanks to a recent estate sale, and has never before been publicly offered to hobbyists and collectors. A small wooden trunk measuring 11 x 11 x 18", this piece is a fully original and unaltered item with a leather handle on top and metal-reinforced corners. The latch on the front has become partially detached but comes included with the trunk. The hand-painting is very faded but still visible, and the chest features lettering reading "DARBY O'BRIEN" at the top front, with "CLEVELAND BASE BALL CLUB" below it. On one side of the trunk, lettering reads "BLUES" at the top, with crossed bats and a baseball painted below. On the other side are crossed bats and a ball with "CBBC" below. Inside the top of the hinged lid is the original "Wm. H. Horstmann" paper label. Overall, the wood and metal are in VG condition. Who knows what types of treasures were once carried in this trunk?
