Montague B. Black poster for the White Star Line of elegant cruiseships is an eerie sight, given that White Star's most popular ship at the time was the Titanic. In fact, the ship shown here can be only the Titanic or its sister ship the Olympic. What's more, the poster is dated circa 1912, shortly after the Titanic first was launched. It was on April 14, 1912 that it had its date with destiny. Poster in mounted on 28 x 43" linen and shows the ship in shallow water with a tugboat ushering it along. The colors are light and pastel like. "White Star Line" is in white on the right and "Europe to America" on the bottom. Black's facsimile signature is in black on lower right. NRMT.
