Early 1880's Figure-Eight Trophy Baseball

Early 1880's Figure-Eight Trophy Baseball

Absolutely one of the very first baseballs in the modern style, created at the beginning of the sphere's evolution from the lemon peel style that had been the genesis. Note the tight stitching-this is definitely professional quality. Sadly the writing on the ball is worn to the point of illegibility, so the mystery will never be solved. All that we know is that it came out of the Boston area. And we're pretty sure you don't have one of these already, and that you won't see too many more before you die. Impossible to overstate the importance of this piece in the history of the game's most important element.
