"First Round Knockout" Louis vs. Schmeling by Joseph Golinkin

"First Round Knockout" Louis vs. Schmeling by Joseph Golinkin

Perhaps the most famous fight during the first half of the 20th century was the rematch in 1938 between Joe Louis and Max Schmeling. Schmeling defeated Louis in 1936, but two years later Louis stopped Schmeling in the very first round. Noted artist Joseph Golinkin has captured the action in this limited edition lithograph (#21/50) depicting Schmeling down, Louis standing in the corner, and the towel being thrown into the ring by Schmeling's seconds. Signed in pencil by the artist. Slightly wavy, otherwise fine. 17" x 21.5" framed to 31" x 25". Rarely seen.
