John Lennon Bag One Suite Erotic Litho Signed Artist Proof
John Lennon was more than just a world-class singer-songwriter. The Liverpool lad who made his mark with the Beatles in the 1960s also became a social activist and acclaimed artist, as evidenced by this framed drawing in pen and ink. The image is part of Lennon's "Bag One Suite," which has toured the U.S., England, Spain, Italy, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Hong Kong and Manilla since his murder in 1980. The risque menage-a-trois scene is signed in pencil (9/10 out of 10) in the lower-right corner with A/P artist proof in the lower left. "Bag One" was Lennon's series of drawings depicting scenes from his and Yoko Ono's wedding and honeymoon. He gave them to her as a wedding present in 1969. The following year, a series of 14 lithographs was created based on the original drawings and exhibited in New York and London. This is one of the eight highly erotic prints in the portfolio, all of which were confiscated by Scotland Yard as pornography (the charge was drooped soon after). The litho measures 33.5" x 24.5" in its frame.
