Lou Boudreau's National Baseball Hall of Fame Presentational Plaque
Eighteen years after he hung up his cleats, Lou Boudreau was inducted into Baseball's Hall of Fame in 1970. Upon his enshrinement, the shortstop and manager who became the first to implement an infield shift, was presented with this miniature version of his actual Cooperstown plaque. It reads: "LOUIS BOUDREAU CLEVELAND A.L. 1938-1950 BOSTON A.L. 1951-1952 LED A.L. SHORTSTOPS IN FIELDING EIGHT SEASONS, SET MAJOR LOOP MARK FOR DOUBLE PLAYS BY SHORTSTOP (134) AND TWO BATTING TITLE, 1944, PACED A.L. IN DOUBLES THREE TIMES, MOST VALUABLE PLAYER, 1948, WHEN HE BATTED .355 TO LEAD INDIANS TO PENNANT AS PLAYER - PILOT. LIFETIME BATTING AVERAGE .295 (C) 1995 NBHOF." The bronze plaque on wood background measures roughly 6,25" x 8,75" and is in NRMT condition. While with the Indians in the early 1950s, Boudreau used a shift against dead-pull hitter Ted Williams, although he later admitted it was mostly a tactical ploy/head game against the brilliant hitter.
