Magnificent 1923 Dieges & Clust Baseball Trophy
Col. Charles J. Dieges and Prosper Clust were turn-of-the-century jewelers who were famous for manufacturing iconic awards such as the Heisman Trophy, Spanish-American War Medal, 1904 Olympic Medal, Eagle Scout Medal, the Medal of honor and baseball's first Most Valuable Player awards. They also worked on somewhat anonymous fare such as this 16-and-a-half-inch-tall, silver-plated trophy crowned with Bambino-era letter at the peak. It is engraved: "CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY THE PRESS NORTHSIDE JUNIOR LEAGUE SECTION 2 SEASON 1923 WON BY SUMMIT AC BASEBALL CLUB." There's great quality attributed to the separate bat and WWI era-influenced stars and bar logo. The original patina and signature wooden base are beautiful. There's an old chip but otherwise is in EX-MT condition. One of the most visually stunning examples we have come across.
