Muhammad Ali - Ken Norton Site Poster (29x23.5")
Fabulous site poster for Muhammad Ali vs. Ken “Jaw Breaker” Norton on September 28, 1976 in The House That Ruth Built. Once indisputably “The Greatest”, Muhammad Ali was waning in health and dominance at this point, weighing in at a hefty 230 pounds. Norton gave Ali quite a problem that day, but Ali narrowly won by decision in a match that many felt he had lost. Back in 1973, when Ali fought the little-known Ken Norton for the first time, he was greeted with a powerful fist, which broke his jaw in the second round. Ali would go on to lose the fight by decision. After that, they started calling Norton such names as “Jaw Breaker” and the “Black Hercules.” Ali would continue to have trouble handling Norton due to Norton’s unorthodox style. Poster headlined by “The World Heavyweight Championship Comes Back to New York.” The words, “Muhammad Ali ‘I Am The Greatest’ Champion vs. Ken ‘Jaw Breaker’ Norton Challenger” are flanked by photos of each boxer in fight stance. Colors are bold. Water stain at top of poster comes down as far as “Muhammad”. On heavy cardboard. Creased once horizontally and once vertically, o/w Excellent.
