Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier I On Site Poster (28x22")
On site poster for “The Fight of the Century,” the first of three epic ring battles between these two larger-than-life legends. The build up to this legendary Heavyweight Championship fight on March 8, 1971 was like nothing seen before. It was also the first time in history that an undefeated champion met an undefeated former champion. Smokin’ Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali fought for 15 rounds of the most enthralling boxing in history. In the 15th round, Frazier landed one of the most famous left hooks in history, dropping Ali for a 4 count. At the end of 15, Frazier had won by way of unanimous decision, but Frazier had put almost everything he had into the fight and it took him a whole year to recover (he did not fight again for the rest of the year). Poster displays full body photos of each fighter and “No Radio… ‘The Fight’… No Home TV” stressed along the top. Best is the printer's stamp on the bottom right edge: "Murray Poster Printing Co. Inc., 521 W. 23rd St. NY 10011." Creased throughout and slightly torn on the left side, o/w VG-EX.
