Original Route 66 Highway Sign
From Illinois to California, generations of Americans got your kicks on Route 66. Stretching 2,448 miles over eight states, the classic U.S. highway has since been broken up but there are still signs demarcating the old thoroughfare. Metal signs such as this 24" x 24" beauty were sold by the government back in 1980s and show nice wear. There is a label on the back which reads: "TEXAS STATE DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION - I HEREBY CERTIFY THIS SIGN IS AN AUTHENTIC U.S. ROUTE 66 MARKER. U.S. ROUTE 66 WAS WITHDRAWN AS AN OFFICIAL ROUTE ON JUNE 26, 1985" with a signature below.
