Picasso Signed Book

Picasso Signed Book

The foremost figure in 20th Century art, Picasso's work spanned seven decades and an incredible range of styles and forms, from his "blue" and "rose" periods to the intentional distortions and fragmentations of cubism. Picasso could shock or amuse, and always enlighten. He produced magnificent nudes and monsters and later in life dabbled with fantasies and comic abstractions. Picasso, who died in 1971 at age 92, left an enduring imprint in this 1955 French volume of his life and work, "Griffe de Picasso" (Claw of Picasso), by Andre Verdet -- his signature and a "mini Picasso" that will delight Picasso-philes. The one-word signature in red crayon emblazons the top of the first inside page, with a red slash underneath, separating the name from three crayon splotches, in orange, yellow and gray. One can ponder all day what the meaning of the drawing means, but it may simply be a happy Picasso doodle. The signature has degraded a bit but remains strong and unmistakable, a good 7/10 of the last of the Grand Masters. There is also an inserted page with a facsimile signature and repro of a black charcoal Picasso drawing, with a penciled-in "23/95". The book itself is EX+ with only the slightest browning at the tips of the pages. The dazzling red and gold cover is NRMT. A very rare chance to obtain a Picasso without going into hock.
