Pope Pius IX Photograph With Signature, Dated 1875
Elected in 1846, Pope Pius IX served for nearly 32 years, the longest reign in papal history. He is widely considered to be one of the truly great popes, and was beatified - the last step toward sainthood - in 2000. Pope Pius IX is credited with defining the Immaculate Conception, as well as the doctrine of Papal Infallibility. This sepia photograph, 7 1/2 x 10” oval, is double-matted above a 10 1/4 x 11/2” handwritten benediction in Italian, dated and boldly signed “Vatican, 28 Fbre 1875. Pius P.P. IX”. Overall dimensions are 16 1/4 x 19 1/2”. A Letter of Authenticity accompanies this wonderful item. Condition is NRMT or better.
