President Zachary Taylor Signed 1850 Appointment
Presidential appointment of Patrice Dillon as the “Counsel of France for San Francisco California” on May 28, 1850, a few months before California became a state. An especially important appointment as San Francisco’s population was doubling every ten days as this was during the height of the Gold Rush and by 1853; one third of the City’s population was French. The signature of Taylor is NRMT as is the document. The document is in a framed display (26x35.5”)
