Rare 1974 "Ali For Champ" Poster For The Foreman Fight

Rare 1974 "Ali For Champ" Poster For The Foreman Fight

"Rumble in the Jungle" poster hyping the Muhammad Ali vs. George Foreman Heavyweight Championship fight which took place in Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo), Africa. This is widely recognized as one of the top sporting events in history. Poster is mounted to linen and is 26" x 38" in size and in NRMT condition. Its headline reads "Ali for Champ" and hypes Muhammad Ali, "The People's Champ" vs. George Foreman "World Heavyweight Champion". Part of the cultural build up to this fight involved Ali's ability to woo the Congolese people to back him over Foreman. It was like a political, pre-election environment and posters like this one were part of the campaign. The bout took place on Tuesday, October 29, 1974. Almost immediately after the fight began, Ali deployed a technique now known as "rope a dope" where he essentially stayed up against the ropes and let Foreman punch him at will. This eventually wore Foreman out and allowed Ali to prevail, regaining his Championship title.
