Sphas 1944 Basketball Program Collection (6)

Sphas 1944 Basketball Program Collection (6)

From the earliest days of professional basketball comes this group of six programs from the Philadelphia Sphas basketball team. All date from early or late 1944. The Sphas dominated the sport during that era, reaching the finals during the 1943-44 season before being crowned ABL Champions the following year. The two-page programs average GD-VG due to being folded. Also included is a photo of the Sphas display from the original basketball Hall of Fame at Springfield College (Mass.). The name Sphas was an acronym for South Philadelphia Hebrew Association, and the team played its home games in social halls and even in the ballroom of the Broadwood Hotel.
