Uniform From Maurice Stokes Benefit Game

Uniform From Maurice Stokes Benefit Game

Original Knick Ossie Schectman wore this uniform during the last of the Maurice Stokes benefit games. On the front is printed: Kutsher's CC Maurice Stokes Game, Monticello NY. After Stokes' death, the game was played to benefit players who fell on hard times. Includes matching jersey and shorts. No tagging on the jersey but a Felco X-LARGE tag is on the back of the shorts. Stokes was a three-time NBA All-Star before suffering a debilitating injury on the last day of the 1957-58 season, driving to the basket, getting fouled, landing on his head and losing consciousness. He returned to the court three days later against the Pistons for a playoff game, but felt ill on the plane ride home, suffered a seizure and lapsed into a coma. He was paralyzed the rest of his life.
