The Ceremonial First Ball in Miami Heat History

The Ceremonial First Ball in Miami Heat History

The Miami Heat has been one of the most successful expansion teams in NBA history, reaching the playoffs 17 times while winning 10 division titles and multiple championships. However, back in 1988, the team got off to an NBA-record 0-17 start before finally defeating the Clippers in Los Angeles over a month into the season for the franchise's first victory. This basketball was used in the inaugural pregame ceremony at Miami Arena with Ossie Schectman - the man who scored the first basket in league history - being honored. This official Spalding NBA ball was signed by Ossie and the original team. The birth of an important NBA Franchise - currently ranked 6th by Forbes Magazine - began with this ceremony. Also included is correspondence from the Heat and a plaque presented to Ossie from the Heat Opening Night in 1988.
