Stunning 19th century Baseball Pocket Watch

Stunning 19th century Baseball Pocket Watch

One of the true cornerstones of antique baseball collecting. Extremely rare watch (first one known) shows a period baseball scene circa 1900. 100% original and unscathed, the celluloid face is a pastor lyrical homage to the game of lore. Batter stands at the ready with ancient big stick while aggressive catcher waits for the next ball to cross the plate. In the background is a stadium grandstand scene worthy of Prang, Currier and Ives or any of the hailed 19th century printmakers. The numbers in Victorian font only add to the atmosphere and wealth of this vaunted timepiece. And the lovely second hand beats the time like the heart of a warrior, whether it was King Kelly, Cap Anson or the young player searching for acceptance or stardom. Lovingly detailed case in Victorian filigree has mark inside with “NE” inside heart and marked “Sterling". Back opens to reveal the quality of this bejeweled dazzler, and its maker, the England Watch Co. There are only two other known important 19th century baseball illustrated face pocket watches. They are the same; one is in gold, the other faux. This we believe is superior to both in its rarity and, most importantly, its hauntingly elegant, flat out fetching design.
