The Carl Liscombe And Rhode Island Reds Collection
Wonderful collection of mementos and minutiae from Carl Liscombe’s nomadic -- and very fine -- career. A squat 5-foot-8-inch left wing, Liscombe began with the IHL’s Detroit Olympics in 1935, then with the NHL Red Wings from ‘37 to ‘46 -- being a key member of the ‘43 Stanley Cup champs. He still shares the team record for most goals in a playoff game (4) and most points in a game (7) and was the 1st to record 100 points in a season. He spent the rest of his career in the AHL, was a 2-time MVP, and in ‘49 led the Providence Reds to win the Calder Cup. Items include a guest list and an itinerary card from a 1935 Hamilton Tigers team cruise on the Britannic from N.Y. to Southampton, signed by Liscombe and other Olympics members; vintage photos and 3 game programs from the Reds, 2 with Liscombe on the cover; a ‘40s Reds team signed mini-stick (Liscombe signature on top and NRMT); and many articles and photos with teammates -- all great AHL material. Also stuff from other teams like the IAHL’s Indianapolis Capitols. All items came from the Liscombe family. Hockey as it was in its boom era.
