The Life of Red Huge Collection of Scrapbooks & Newspapers
If anyone ever planned to write a biography or shoot a documentary on Cardinals great Red Schoendienst, this treasure trove of clippings and ephemera compiled by relatives, friends and fans would provide just about all the background info anyone could ever ask for. The contents here chronicle Red's life and actually originate before his very birth with one book containing 19th century material relating to relatives on his wife's side of the family. Most of the material pertains to baseball, however, including his years with the 1957 and 1958 Braves; an album pertaining to the 1967 World Champion Cardinals; programs; ticket stubs from the 1931 (2) and 1946 World Series; numerous congratulatory letters including those from celebrities like Ted and Rose Kennedy; a volume containing a letter in reference to a tribute to Red with the likes of Bud Selig, Jerry Coleman, Andy Pafko and others; telegrams; cards including a thank-you from Yogi Berra with his wedding picture; certificates awarded to Red; original photographs; roster guides; and much, much more. There are 22 separate albums and at least 35 full newspapers included here. Some of the albums have beautiful, oranate covers with baseball themes. Overall, they are in VG condition.
