1880s Waterbury Connecticut Base Ball Grounds Broadsides (8)

1880s Waterbury Connecticut Base Ball Grounds Broadsides (8)

This great selection of 4x7" broadsides herald 19th century baseball action at the Waterbury Base Ball Grounds. Exhibition and League Championship games are included, with teams such as the Echoes, Watch Shops, New Britains, Waterburys, Clippers, Meridens, Watervilles and Bridgeports. Created by Malone & Cooley Printers, each of these pieces hearken to the early days of America's Pastime, with notes including a special "Ladies Free" game, for which a section was reserved specifically for women, and any gentlemen accompanying them, perhaps a nod to the "rough and tumble" nature of the sport in those early days. There is some chipping at the corners and a couple of the years written lightly in pencil.
