1883 Sporting Life Philadelphia Quakers "Cameo" Cover Series with Candy Cummings

1883 Sporting Life Philadelphia Quakers "Cameo" Cover Series with Candy Cummings

Incredible set featuring Candy Cummings, the "inventor" of the curveball. These are the earliest issues of the once-popular Sporting Life, issues 15- 24 produced in 1883, the first year of publication. These were originally preserved in volumes of large albums, but the spines are split and these are loose pages. Content includes box score for Hoss Radbourns' no-hitter (whch they make very little of) (#16), Tim Keefe wins both ends of a doubleheader, commentary on creation of the reserve clause (#19), Hugh Daily no hitter (again, seems it was no big deal at the time as it was not even mentioned as such (#23). Printed on broadsheet newsprint, the pages show the wear and tear one would expect from age as well as the binding (and unbinding) process but the print is virtually all unblemished and legible.
