1888 McLoughlin Bros. New York Giants Cut-Out Sheet

1888 McLoughlin Bros. New York Giants Cut-Out Sheet

Offered is an intact cut-out sheet of the 1988 New York Giants, a champion in one of the "original" World Series. In the annual "original" World Series, the National League champion faced the champion of the American Association, then a major league. Ten generic New York Giant players are depicted in various poses; for example, a batter, a pitcher and a catcher. All in all, nine fielders and a batter are depicted, as well as an umpire in civilian clothes. The 1888 Giants won the World Series, six games to four, against the St. Louis Browns. The Giants were loaded with stars, with these six Hall of Famers on the team: Buck Ewing; Roger Connor, the 19th. Century home run hitter whose lifetime record of 138 homers was succeeded by Babe Ruth; Jim O'Rourke; John Ward, and pitchers Tim Keefe and Mickey Welch. The team was managed by Jim Mutrie, and the Giants played at Polo Grounds I. The McLoughlin Brothers sheet has some creasing, as it was probably rolled at one time, but is otherwise in good condition. The sheet measures 4.75x20.75", framed at 11x26.25". The cut-outs are a colorful, charming remembrance of vintage baseball.
