1908 Grant "Home Run" Johnson Cuban Program/Magazine - Legendary Negro Leaguer's Only Known Cover

1908 Grant "Home Run" Johnson Cuban Program/Magazine - Legendary Negro Leaguer's Only Known Cover

The only known cover of "Grant Johnson...Manager of the Philadelphia Giants,” this specimen is the September 1908 issue of "The Score" (translated), which doubles as a scorecard as well. Amazing piece has tears at edge as this likely came from a bound volume, otherwise real nice and clean. One of the true all-time Negro League greats, Johnson was soon after named to named to the Negro League All-Star team of sportswriter Harry Daniels of the “Freeman,” a legendary African American newspaper. This immortal 1909 “All-American” team boasted Johnson along with Rube Foster, Bruce Petway, Frank Duncan, Pop Lloyd and more; the team is a measuring stick of the early greats.
