1909 Revere Massachusetts "Acid Etched" Baseball Trophy

1909 Revere Massachusetts "Acid Etched" Baseball Trophy

Very unusual engraving features early baseballer that looks more 19th century than 20th. That is not unusual as many of these trophies were designed and manufactured years earlier and then engraved upon later sale. The engraving is the early and most desired technique of "acid etching." You simply do not see engraved trophies of this type, let alone baseball ones. Trophy itself is a silver plate beauty by Homan Manufacturing of Cincinnati (11.5” tall). Sports figural bat and ball handles in quality so defined you can see the stitching in the baseballs. Engraved, "Presented to Winthrop Lodge No 101 By Grand Union Field Day Association...IOOF...At Point of Pines Aug 28/1909." IOOF stands for Independent Order of Odd Fellows, a benevolent organization devoted to helping people and bettering mankind. Shown on the internet portion is an advertisement of the event at the time (not included with the lot).
