1912 Riding an Electric Horse on the Titanic Photograph (PSA Type I)

1912 Riding an Electric Horse on the Titanic Photograph (PSA Type I)

Original Type I photograph capturing one of the many luxuries afforded first-class passengers on the RMS Titanic. Unbeknownst to many, the Titanic, like other luxury cruise ships of the time, was equipped with a full gym that was accessible only with the purchase of a first-class ticket. One of the many pieces of equipment in the gym, in addition to stationary bikes and rowing machines, was an electric horse, which simulated an equestrian ride. Pictured here is a young woman partaking a ride on the “horse” during an exercise session aboard the Titanic. The ship’s trainer was Thomas McCauley and it is recorded that when the Titanic struck the iceberg, McCauley remained at his post in the gym and went down with the ship. Two Brown Brothers credit stamps appear on the reverse. The photo (5.5x7.5") has been slightly trimmed to its current dimensions and displays a few light surface wrinkles. Excellent in its overall appearance. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
