1912 Titantic Captain E. J. Smith Photograph (PSA Type II)

1912 Titantic Captain E. J. Smith Photograph (PSA Type II)

Vintage photograph, circa 1920s, capturing E. J. Smith, captain of the ill-fated RMS Titanic. Smith is pictured posing in uniform on board one of his ships. Smith's actions after the Titanic collided with an iceberg have been hotly debated by historians. Some witnesses later testified that he was a hero and helped many women and children board the lifeboats, while others claimed he was paralyzed by indecision. Whatever the truth, Smith, like all good captains, went down with his ship, along with approximately 1,500 other passengers. Four Brown Brothers credit stamps appear on the reverse, along with a typed identification label and Smith's name written in ink. The photo (7.5x9.25") displays a few light creases and is in Very Good condition. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type II Authentic.
