1912 Titanic Wireless Operator Harold Bride Photograph (PSA Type I)

1912 Titanic Wireless Operator Harold Bride Photograph (PSA Type I)

Original Type I photograph capturing Harold Bride, the junior wireless officer on the RMS Titanic, being carried off the Carpathia. Bride was one of heroes of the Titanic disaster, as both he and his senior colleague, Jack Phillips, remained at their posts sending out SOS messages until the last moment. Bride was swept out to sea, but managed to reach a lifeboat and was eventually rescued by the crew of the Carpathia. Bride suffered severe frostbite to his feet, which, as seen in this photo, are heavily bandaged. The handwritten text on the reverse reads "Harold Bride the Titanic's wireless under Phillips." Three Brown Brothers credit stamps also appear on the reverse. The photo (2.5x4.25") displays a small chip in both the upper and lower left corners, otherwise it is in Excellent condition. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
