1912 World Series Smokey Joe Wood Original Glass Plate Negative

1912 World Series Smokey Joe Wood Original Glass Plate Negative

Original glass plate negative capturing "Smokey Joe" Wood as a member of the Boston Red Sox. Wood is pictured warming up on the sidelines prior to a game in the 1912 World Series. Although no date or locale is listed, the distinctive Polo Grounds grandstand facade can be seen in the background (1912 was the only season in which the Giants and Red Sox met in the World Series). Wood started and won both Games 1 and 4 at the Polo Grounds to help lead the Red Sox to an eight game win in the 1912 World Series (one game ended in a tie). The negative (6.5x8.5") remains in Excellent condition. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive.
