1916 Chick Gandil Signed Handwritten Heilbroner Baseball Bureau Card

Exceptional 1916 Chick Gandil signed and handwritten Heilbroner Baseball Bureau card. The Heilbroner Baseball Bureau was established in 1909 and collected data and statistical info of professional players, mostly consisting of 3x5 index cards with abbreviated stat/notations and questionnaires. The 3x5's were sold (many decades ago) to SABR co-founder Ray Nemec who used them as the basis for his player profiles/and lifetime records. Sent to Gandil in 1916 as a member of the Cleveland Indians and very cool to see the corrected age as Gandil did the math on the card (1916-1889 = 27). Heilbroner would then send these cards back to update the teams that each player played for and Gandil's previous stops are on back through 1916. Card has Louis Heilbroner Baseball Bureau logo on top right on front, minor creasing otherwise Very Good to Excellent condition. Significant in light of the 100th Anniversary of the 1919 Black Sox scandal of which Gandil was a participant.

2019 marks the 100th Anniversary of the most infamous scandal in sports history. The 1919 World Series was the scene of the crime, the culprits were eight members of the Chicago “Black Sox” and the crime was game fixing. Shoeless Joe Jackson and seven other members of the “Black Sox” were subsequently banned from baseball three years later and that ban still stands to this day. On this Anniversary, Lelands is privileged to offer a comprehensive collection of memorabilia related to the 1919 World Series teams including a Joe Jackson PSA certified signed document, 1919 World Series tickets, 1919 White Sox season pass, Type I photos, handwritten letters, autographs and much more.
