1919 World Series Game 5 Press Ticket from the Joe Carr Find (PSA)

Rare and spectacular, this is a 1919 World Series Game 5 press ticket stub from the Joe Carr find. PSA authenticated and encapsulated, handwritten on front is "Ohio St. Journal - J.F. Carr." Game 5 stood to be pivotal in the best-of-9 series as the Cincinnati Reds came in having shockingly won three of the first four. Lefty Williams, later implicated in the fixing scandal, absorbed his second of three losses in that series for the White Sox, though interestingly he carried a shutout into the sixth inning of what would be a 5-0 defeat, as Chicago was shut out for the second straight game. The ticket presents gorgeously, though there is slight paper loss from the gate tear on the right edge. An amazing memento on the 100th Anniversary of the scandal that rocked baseball and the nation.

2019 marks the 100th Anniversary of the most infamous scandal in sports history. The 1919 World Series was the scene of the crime, the culprits were eight members of the Chicago “Black Sox” and the crime was game fixing. Shoeless Joe Jackson and seven other members of the “Black Sox” were subsequently banned from baseball three years later and that ban still stands to this day. On this Anniversary, Lelands is privileged to offer a comprehensive collection of memorabilia related to the 1919 World Series teams including a Joe Jackson PSA certified signed document, 1919 World Series tickets, 1919 White Sox season pass, Type I photos, handwritten letters, autographs and much more.
