1919 Chicago "Black Sox" Collection of Heilbroner Baseball Bureau Cards (9)

Selection of nine (9) Heilbroner cards relating to the notorious 1919 Black Sox World Series. Cards include Ray Schalk, Red Faber (2), Charles Robertson, Eddie Murphy, Dickie Kerr, Harry Leibold, Dave Danforth and Joe Jenkins. The Heilbroner Baseball Bureau was established in 1909 and collected data and statistical info of professional players, mostly consisting of 3x5 index cards with abbreviated stat/notations and questionnaires. The 3x5s were sold (many decades ago) to SABR co-founder Ray Nemec who used them as the basis for his player profiles and lifetime records. This group is dated between 1912-1930. All have his stamp on top right corner on front and these are in the handwriting of the players including previous teams played on, bio info, and more with Dickie Kerr adding his signature on the back. A century later, many questions remain about that World Series and the players implicated in throwing the championship to the Cincinnati Reds.

2019 marks the 100th Anniversary of the most infamous scandal in sports history.
