1923 Jack Dempsey & Jack Kearns "Tex Rickard" Contract for Luis Firpo Fight

All-important two-page contract dated August 23, 1923 is between Hall of Fame boxing promoter, George “Tex” Rickard and Jack Dempsey and Jack Kearns, Dempsey’s manager, in reference to the motion picture rights to the future fight to be held at the Polo Grounds on September 14, 1923. The fight proved to be another epic tale in Jack Dempsey’s storied legacy. Facing the “Wild Bull of the Pampas”, Luis Firpo, Dempsey dropped his challenger 7 times in the first round, before Firpo retaliated by sending Dempsey clear through the ropes with one swift right. Dempsey would score a KO in the 2nd round. Contract is signed boldly in black fountain pen by Rickard, Dempsey, & Kearns. Rickard’s signature is a “7” out of a possible 10, Dempsey’s & Kearns’ are both “8.5’s”. Contract is stained on the first page and creased once. VG-EX.
