1931 Herbert Hoover and Connie Mack Photograph (PSA Type I)

1931 Herbert Hoover and Connie Mack Photograph (PSA Type I)

Original Type I photograph capturing Philadelphia A's manager Connie Mack and President Herbert Hoover shaking hands at Shibe Park. This scene took place prior to the start of Game 3 of the 1931 World Series between the A's and St. Louis Cardinals. As noted by the printed caption on the reverse, looking on are both Mrs. Herbert Hoover and Mrs. H. Mackey, wife of the Mayor of Philadelphia. Although the caption is undated, we have seen another example of this photo dated 10/5/31. The Cardinals defeated the A's 5-2 in Game 3 and ultimately won the Series in seven games, thereby thwarting Philadelphia' bid to win three consecutive World Championships. Two Brown Brothers credit stamps appear on the reverse, along with a Brown Brothers label. The photo (10x8") displays light creasing and is in Very Good condition overall. Culled from the legendary Brown Brothers Photo Archive. PSA encapsulated as Type I Authentic.
