1935 National Chicle Football Card Correspondence (58)

Important archive relating to the creation of the 1935 National Chicle Football Card set addressed to Bert Bell of the Philadelphia Eagles from Treasurer A.S. Livingston on National Chicle letterhead. These eight letters (and four copies of responses) from 1935 with tremendous content includes: requests for photographs of players to be used in the set, sending free boxes of Diamond Stars, exactly how the proposed cards will look, “lithographers proofs” of #1-24 being sent, “working night and day getting out our “FOOTBALL STARS CHEWING GUM,” and more. Included here are also 1934-36 correspondences from Mathew Hayden of the Diamond Match Book Company (on their stationery) regarding their set. There are eight letters and four copies of responses with similar content as the above Chicle's. Also included are 34 copies of Philadelphia Eagles player bios that were sent out for potential use in this set. Herein lies amazing historical data on the creation and production of these legendary football card sets.
