1959 Baltimore Colts Championship Game Used Football

1959 Baltimore Colts Championship Game Used Football

An amazing relic from the Golden Age of football, a Wilson "The Duke" football used in the 1959 NFL Championship Game hosted by the Baltimore Colts. The game featured the Johnny Unitas-led Colts defeating the New York Giants 31 to 16, and capturing their second consecutive World Championship. The offered football was autographed by the Championship team, then sent by Baltimore coach Weeb Ewbank to NFL Commissioner Bert Bell, along with a letter (included) which reads, "Dear Mrs. Bell, Enclosed you will find an autographed football that was used in the Championship Game of December 27, 1959. We are extremely sorry for the delay in getting this ball to you but wanted to be sure all of our players signed it. It was the desire of the team that this ball be presented to you and that they more than appreciate all that Mr. Bell has done for them. Sincere best wishes. Respectfully, Weeb Ewbank, Head Football Coach." The ball has been signed by the entire Colts team, however the majority of the signatures have faded over time. Those that can be discerned include: Ewbank, Donovan, Ameche, Moore, and Jerry Richardson (future owner of the Carolina Panthers who caught a Unitas TD catch in the game). The ball is accompanied by the original mailing box, and the letter from Coach Ewbank. Overal EX-MT condition.
